Carnival of Venice – Veneto
A VIP event in all its grandeur –this is a fitting way to describe the Carnivale di Venezia. This theatrical open-air spectacle is a masterpiece set in the city centre as well as behind the closed doors of many of the city's prestigious venues. Your two, three or more days' programme immerses you from the very first moment in the atmosphere of one gigantic movie set, life-like scenery and Italian "farre bella figura" with costumes and masks that will grab your imagination.
To celebrate the Carnival of Venice 2014 Made in Italy Travel proposes a number of locations with a view of the city centre, located along the channel and easily accessible by water taxi, and, of course, the very best activities of the carnival. To this end, we have two standard formulas in store for you.
The Colours of Venice – Diamond, 3 days (Fri-Sat-Sun)
When you arrive at the Venice Marco Polo Airport the water taxi service is already waiting to bring you into the heart of the city. After checking into the hotel you can head out at once to go soak in the atmosphere, enjoy an espresso at Harry's Bar or marvel at the impressive Saint Mark's Square while sipping from a glass of bellini at Café Florian. Around 1 PM you are expected in the elegant Palazzetto Pisani-Ferri for a cocktail reception and lunch buffet with Venetian entertainment. Located between the Accademia bridge and Saint Mark's Square, this palace was the favourite location of various production companies that shot their best scenes here. A gondola serenade set in this colourful scenery, which is given an extra touch by events of the carnival, enhances your experience. Upon you arrival in Saint Mark's Square you will be drawn into the masked parade.
It goes without saying that your stay in Venice should evolve in crescendo, and this will certainly be taken care of the by the evening activity we have in store for you. Around 8:15 PM you are expected – in costume of course – at a dinner dance in what is surely the most exclusive hotel in Venice, Hotel Danieli. During and after the dinner a teacher and a baroque quartet will actively entertain you and your company by teaching you characteristic Venetian dances. A guaranteed spectacle! Or would you rather accept an invitation from Shakespeare with his theatre characters in the lead role?
After a wonderful breakfast the next morning you will explore the hidden streets, corners and squares of Venice. You will visit a mask workshop and experience a "meet and greet" with the artist himself. Breathing in the atmosphere at a gondola workshop is on the schedule as well. Your lunch venue has an extra surprise in store for you and serves the characteristic traditional kitchen. In the afternoon you take a boat ride on a trabaccolo or a bragozzo and enjoy a visit to Murano & Burano, cicchetti (Venetian appetizers) as well as a visit to one of the islands San Giorgio, San Servolo or Mazzorbo. Afterwards we return to the heart of Venice. And the day of course culminates in the evening activity: Il Ballo Del Doge in Palazzo Pisani Moretta – your place is ensured at the city's most exclusive ball.
The third day you are free to go shopping or to attend additional carnival activities.
Colours of Venice – Silver, 2 days (1 night)
As you arrive at Venice Marco Polo Airport you are free to choose between two means of transportation to get to the city centre: by water taxi or train. You will stay in a cozy small-scale B&B embracing hospitality and customer satisfaction as its core values.
After the check-in you experience Venice together with a local entertainer. Yes, he is a guide, but more importantly a proud inhabitant of the city. He will take you to places that the average tourist will never see, let you experience things that you wouldn't find on the such-and-such Facebook page! Visiting a gondola workshop and an artistic mask workshop and seeing how things are done there, watching the preparation of a typical Venetian dish and taking part in it yourself, walking into nostalgic shops in hidden streets, hearing the sagas and legends of Venice – In a nutshell, it will be a fascinating day.
In the evening you have an appointment for a special dinner and entertainment aboard a historical gulet, letting you see the Carnivale di Venezia glide by you like in a film, as it were. Or would you prefer the masquerade buffet dinner at Hotel Carlton or one of the other gala dinners in the historical palaces?
Day two of your stay features a visit to Murano & Burano, your participation in a masked gondola serenade trip, a light lunch of local specialities and, of course, free time for shopping, strolling around and enjoying the Venetian spectacle.
